Nursery and New Born Care in Bikaner
A nursery and new born care has specialist doctors, nurses, other professionals and equipment to care for premature babies. Shri Krishna Hospital has been providing nursery and new born care services since 3 long years.
Why babies need Nursery Care?
Babies may need to be in a nursery care nursery because:
- they were born premature and need extra care
- they may have health issues
- they were born with a low weight
What we do?
In our nursery, our specialized doctors care for your baby. During this period of time, you can start doing more things for your baby. You can hold your baby for much longer and take over some of the cares.
Parents are encouraged to cuddle their newborn. The mother and newborn recover together in the delivery room in general. Mothers who are breastfeeding put their child to their breast within the first half an hour after delivery. When transported to the nursery, newborns are placed on their back in a small crib and kept warm.
Right after the normal delivery of a baby, the doctor or nurse clears mucus and other material from the mouth, throat and nose with the help of a suction machine. Then, the newborn is able to take a breath. Umbilical cord is cut between the clamps applied side by side on the umbilical cord. The newborn is dried and laid on the mother’s abdomen in a careful manner. There is no skin-to-skin contact or on a sterile and warm blanket.
The pediatrician assesses the newborn for any common abnormalities or signs of distress. The overall condition of the newborn is recorded at 1 minute and at 5 minutes after birth using a special scoring system known as the Apgar score. Keep in mind that a low Apgar score is a sign that the newborn is having difficulty. It implies that the baby may need assistance with blood circulation or breathing.
It is important to keep the newborn warm. Newborn is wrapped in lightweight clothing by our nurses. The body is covered to lessen the loss of body heat. Some drops of an antibiotic like erythromycin and tetracycline are placed into the eyes to prevent infection from any harmful organisms which the newborn might have had contact with at the time of delivery.
